The Use of High Strength Steel Sheets for Producing Toyota Vehicles

Manabu Fujine and Hiroshi Kawaguchi
Toyota Motor Corporation

The biggest concerns that the automotive industry faces in the early twenty first century are those related to ‘environment’ and ‘safety’. In order to reduce CO emissions, Toyota has developed and is 2 aggressively selling hybrid vehicles. As for the conventional engine vehicle, various fuel consumption improvement techniques have been employed, such as those related to engine efficiency, combustion, and transmission efficiency. The weight reduction is an important method for reducing CO discharge volume. In this paper, 2 current automotive application status, issues of increasing application and future trend of various types of high strength steel that is one of the method for reducing CO emissions and increasing 2 safety performance is explained.
