Fatigue Considerations for Steel Cord Utilisation in the Carcass of Truck-Bus Radial Tyres

Luca Cirilli, Alessio Secci and Agresti Simone
Pirelli Tyre

Fatigue endurance is the most important characteristic required to the tire reinforcement especially when the service time must be very long (retreaded tires). Only an open relation between producers of tires and cords can lead to a rational and correct design for fatigue. In fact the only one way to choose the right cord construction and the right cord manufacturing process is testing the product with the proper fatigue test and it is possible only having all the information about the load service conditions, which the tire is subjected to, during its entire life. The paper gives an overview on the different approaches for fatigue steelcord design and point out how the different characteristics of single filament and the cord construction sometime can go in opposite directions from a fatigue life point of view.
